My interest in cryptocurrency, blockchains and Web3 stemmed from the first massive rally in Bitcoin and Ether back in 2015. Like most people, dollar signs and the potential of a wealthy new life flashed through my rent poor eyes...until it crashed and I couldn’t afford to invest anymore. My interest plateaued until the next rally at which point I decided that rather than investing blindly, I would educate myself on the purpose of the cryptocurrencies I was investing in. This alternative approach opened up my eyes to the potential these technologies could have on the next generation of the internet and I became focused on how I could be a part of it.
While the easiest path to take in making a contribution would be to focus on cryptocurrency investments because of the global interest and potential to uproot our financial systems (casual), it scratches the surface on the impact Web3 can make. Similar to what early browsers and Javascript did to the internet when it was first invented, “Web3”, involving topics like blockchains, DAOs and NFTs have the ability to do the same in ways we haven’t even thought of yet. This might sound like crazy talk to many, but I think it would be pretty freakin’ cool to be considered a pioneer for the next generation of a technology that has arguably impacted our society the most in our lifetime.
What does all of this exactly mean for this newsletter? Well I’m trying to build on my enthusiasm by learning Web3 in a way that I find to be the easiest way possible, learning by doing. Bringing life to the white papers through programming and sharing my experiences to hopefully make the concepts tangible and easier to understand for others. Who knows where this learning journey will take me, but I hope I can figure out a way to make my mark in this new space and help educate others along the way.
